Nightmare, ARENA37℃ September 2007 - Interview
JOINING MINDS WITH DARTS INTERVIEW

As usual --> Please be noted that I found this interview in a Thai magazine who had translated it from the original Japanese. I'm just translating it to English. Therefore, there might be several mistakes in translations and such. I'm sorry in advanced if there are any (> <)

Today we asked the both of you to play darts, you seem to be enjoying yourselves?

Ni~ya: Ah yes, I really like playing darts

So you have a set?

Ni~ya: I have the board.
YOMI: Yes, bought about half a year ago.
Ni~ya: But I haven't really played and since I don't know what to do with it, it just lays around in my room.

What have you have decided to do?

Ni~ya: Well, I wanted to play, so I hammered it to the wall (laugh).

Really? It would be troublesome if you had to move.

Ni~ya: That's true (laugh).

What made you like darts?

Ni~ya: Whenever I went out with my friends, we would play darts. But I really began playing seriously when I got my own board. It was a little before going on "the WORLD RULER, Encore" tour. I have a friend who really likes playing darts. Whenever we go out drinking, we have to play. He taught me the rules and I really enjoyed it after I tried.

What about you, YOMI-kun, do you like playing darts? You don't play that often do you?

YOMI: Yes, not that often. I play when I go out drinking with my friends. I only play a little.

Today's scores: Ni~ya with 479 points and YOMI with 317 points. What do you think about your scores'?

YOMI: Below average, I usually get about 370 points.
Ni~ya: You have to add about two hundred more points to get my average. The reason why I get more points is because I can practice at home. But some really skilled people can reach 1000 points.

Getting scores as high as Ni~ya's would be very difficult for the readers. Please teach us your techniques.

Ni~ya: I see (he picks up a dart and starts to demonstrate). It's like this, when holding the dart, you have to put your middle finger on top of it. That way it will have the best gravitational pull. You also have to place your thumb, middle, and fore finger a little bit towards the back. This will make your aim better.
YOMI: And when you're aiming, your arm has to be perpendicular to the floor.
Ni~ya: Yes, when throwing you should only be using the muscles below your wrist; not your whole arm. And most importantly, your waist has to be still.
YOMI: When throwing, you're not supposed to be throwing the dart. Instead, you have to think about the position you want to place your dart. Keeping this in mind will help a lot.

If we follow Ni~ya-kun and YOMI-kun's instructions, it seems like we're barely using any energy to throw. And because of the dart's weight, it might drop or not reach the board at all?

YOMI: You need to use a dart that has good stability. There are many types of darts. You need to choose one that fits your hand.

YOMI-kun, when you play darts, are you serious about losing-wining?

YOMI: Sometimes. When going out with friends, we play drinking games like: "the loser has to drink".

It wouldn't be good if you lose then.

YOMI: Yes. In order to not drink, you have to win (laugh).
Ni~ya: I had to drink a lot during my birthday (laugh). We (members and friends) played darts. But I wasn't so serious about losing then, I was happy to be drinking with my friends. I felt very happy that day.

Is this the first time that you came for an interview as a pair?*

Ni~ya: We rarely come together like this.

The two of you don't really get a chance to talk to each other like this then?

YOMI: Very rarely, a few times a year. We usually have a Sukiyaki* party at Ni~ya's house during the winter.
Ni~ya: There are times when we go out eating, just the two of us. Sometimes with our friends as well.
YOMI: Maybe it's because both Ni~ya and I are blood type A, we often get invited to go drinking. We rarely are the ones who invite others. And sometimes, during the winter, we both invited eachother and have a Sukiyaki party (laugh).

Ni~ya, since it's at your house, do you prepare everything by yourself?

Ni~ya: We all help. While I'm out buying vegetables and ingredients, YOMI helps set up everything else.

It seems fun!

YOMI: It is, but when it's just the two of us - we tend to talk about serious matters. Mostly how we should improve and try harder.
Ni~ya: Yes, along those lines. Serious matters.
YOMI: I think it's because we're both blood type A. I think blood group has a lot to do with it.
Ni~ya: I agree.

If you talk about such serious things while drinking, won't you argue?
YOMI: Not at all. There are times when Ni~ya gets angry, but I apologize immediately and everything is okay again.
Ni~ya: Thinking about it, personality, ideology, popularity, we're both very alike.

Are there times when you talk about things other than music or the band?

Ni~ya: Oh, yes (laugh).
YOMI: If we're not talking about the band, we're most likely talking about perverted things (laugh).

Many bands start to revolve around business when they've been around for such a long time. Is this the case with Nightmare?

YOMI: Yes, there are many bands who become like that. I believe that our band isn't like that. We've been friends with similar musical interests since the beginning - so we formed the band.
Ni~ya: From now on, I don't believe that we will change.

Since that day until now, is there anything that has changed?

YOMI: I think Ni~ya has become more serious about music. Back then, anything was fine as long as he thought it was good. Not anymore. Now he really thinks everything over and cares about the details. He seems more trustworthy - trustworthy enough to give tasks to complete.
Ni~ya: All the praising is making me shy (laugh). I think YOMI's singing skills have improved as well as his speaking skills. He has more confidence when performing his duty at the front. I think he's great.

On September the 23rd, you will be performing kyokutoo symphony~the Five Stars Night~ at Nihon Budokan. It should be fun.

Ni~ya: We will perform our best in our own style. We'd like to present our fans with limitless fun.
YOMI: I wonder how we can achieve limitless fun, from now on we must think hard (laugh).

First, he talks about yakitori and now sukiyaki? Damn, this man is making me hungry. Reading interviews of him shows how different he is onstage and offstage.
